Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, with Canadian delegation.
Doha: Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri met here yesterday with a Canadian delegation, currently visiting the country, to learn about the impacts of the siege imposed on the State of Qatar, on the human rights situation and the humanitarian impact on citizens and residents of Qatar and GCC States.
The delegation consists of civil society figures, former ambassadors, military personnel, researchers in international relations and strategic research centres at Canadian universities.
Dr Al Marri briefed the delegation on the latest repercussions of the siege imposed on Qatar and the efforts exerted by the National Human Rights Committee to defend and remedy those affected.
He also reviewed the latest statistics on the complaints received by the NHRC on those affected by the siege as well as the reports prepared by the Committee, which included documentation of grave violations of human rights by the siege countries against citizens and residents of Qatar and the countries of the blockade.
Dr Al Marri appreciated the visit of the Canadian delegation to Doha, calling on them to inform Canadian society and human rights organisations of what they saw for themselves, and the negative effects that they have endured due to the unjust siege.
