Doha: Maritime Customs at Hamad Port seized thousands of prohibited tobacco in a failed smuggling attempt in Qatar.
Customs shared photos showing piles of the banned substance which was found in a container with water heating devices. It also stated that "the materials were found secretly hidden in packed cartons".
The total weight of seized tobacco reached 7,337.5 kilograms.
A few days ago, the Postal Consignment Department of Air Cargo and Private Airports Customs also thwarted an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine into Qatar. The total weight of substance seized is 1.65 kilogram.
Customs officers are provided with all means of support including the latest devices and continuous training to read the body language of passengers and to be aware of the latest methods followed by smugglers.
