Ajax will make Qatar’s return for a nine-day winter training camp that includes two friendly matches. The squad will leave for Doha on January 4.

According to Ajax website yesterday, the visitors will stay at Aspire Zone, an exclusive training location. The team will return to the Netherlands on January 12.

This will be Ajax’s third training camp in Qatar during the winter break. The last time the selection travelled there was in 2015 with then-coach Frank de Boer. At the time, Ajax played a friendly game against Schalke 04, among others.

Ajax has been invited by Aspire to come over to Qatar. During the training camp, the team has been asked to play two friendly matches against top European teams.

The opponents and game dates will be announced at a later stage. The reason Ajax has accepted the offer for this training camp, is because of the potential opponents and the outstanding facilities Aspire offers. The trip also offers Ajax the opportunity to explore the area for business opportunities.

During the training camp, Erik ten Hag’s selection hopes to enjoy an optimal preparation for the second half of the season. Which starts on January 19, when Ajax meets Sparta at home.

Last year, Ajax travelled to Florida during the winter break. They participated in the Florida Cup and played against São Paulo (4-2-win) and Flamengo (2-2).
