Qatar advances in World Schools Handball

Doha: Qatar advanced into the next round of the 24th ISF World Schools Handball Championships with an emphatic 24-12 win over Bulgaria in the boy’s section here yesterday.

At the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Stadium in Al Sadd, Qatar needed a win to make it toe he next stage and they did not disappoint the local fans.

The hosts will now take on Serbia in the next round match at the same venue today morning.

In the other matches today, Serbia defeated Denmark 26-23, Austria had it easy with a comfortable 35-16 win, while Greece defeated Romania 25-17.

In the girl’s section, Serbia defeated Turkey 39-26 while Czech Reopublic won 23-19 against Israel while Brazilian girls edged Croatia 25-23.

Today’s action begins at 9.00am while the last match is at 4.00pm.

The championships is played at three venues in Doha at the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Stadium in Al Sadd, Aspire Dome and Qatar’s Women’s Sports Committee Hall.

The nine-day championship is organised by Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA), in technical collaboration with Qatar Handball Federation is held at three venues in Doha and will end on February 28.

Over 20 countries are taking part in the event including Austria, France, Turkey, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Brazil, Israel, Hungary, Slovenia, Denmark, Romania, Morocco, Georgia, Romania, Czech Republic, Greece, Belgium, Bulgaria, Serbia and hosts Qatar.
