Paris: France, the United States, Britain, and Germany Tuesday welcomed the extension of the ceasefire for 15 days between the Syrian government and the SDF forces, calling on all parties concerned to fully adhere to the terms of the agreement and to avoid any field escalation.

The four countries, in a joint statement issued following a meeting attended by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, German Deputy Foreign Minister Serap Guler, and US Special Envoy Tom Barrack, emphasised the importance of strictly respecting the ceasefire, stressing the need for all parties to exercise the utmost restraint, contributing to the protection of civilians and maintaining relative stability in conflict-affected areas.

The countries also called for a rapid achievement of a permanent ceasefire agreement, considering it a key step toward reducing tensions and creating suitable conditions to launch a comprehensive political process in line with international legitimacy resolutions.

This international welcome comes at a time when areas in northern and eastern Syria are witnessing intermittent tensions, amid fears of the collapse of field understandings, which could exacerbate humanitarian conditions and threaten regional stabilisation efforts.
