Qatar-US strategic talks to begin on Tuesday

DOHA: The State of Qatar announced yesterday that strategic dialogue between Qatar and the US will begin on Tuesday, January 30, in the US capital Washington DC.

A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs representing the State of Qatar will be participating in the dialogue led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Ministry of Defence led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, the Ministry of Energy and Industry led by the Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce led by Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani and the Ministry of Finance represented by Minister of Finance H E Ali Shareef Al Emadi.

Representatives of other state ministers and authorities, including the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Communication, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Airways, Qatar Central Bank, Qatar Investment Authority, and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development will also accompany the delegation.

The US side will see the participation of the Department of State led by Secretary of State, Department of Defence led by Secretary of Defence, Department of Treasury led by Secretary of Treasury, Department of Commerce led by Secretary of Commerce and representatives of other authorities. A number of agreements, Memorandums of Understandings (MoU), and letters of intent will be signed, including a MoU in the field of energy during the talks. A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between Qatar Ports Management Company and the American side, a letter of intent between the US Department of Energy and the Qatari Ministry of Transport and Communication in the field of cybersecurity of the critical infrastructure for energy.

The two sides will also announce a number of agreements following the conclusion of the talks on January 30.

The dialogue comes in the context of enhancing the partnerships between the two countries in light of the historic ties and strategic interests they both share on all political, economic, cultural, educational, and security levels.
