DOHA: The Cultural Village Foundation — Katara will honour the winners of the first Al Habal bird hunting competition today.
The contest, the first in Qatar and the Gulf, saw 12 teams of 48 competitors aged 10 to 15 years.
Al Rowais team won first place and Al Jarian team came second. The third place was shared by three teams — Wajbah, Zubair and Dafna Al Ghariah. The winning teams will receive QR10,000; QR8,000 and QR5,000, respectively.
The competition was organised by Katara last week at Arkiah farm of Hassad Qatar.
It included lectures and workshops by Mohammad Ali Al Matawah on the types of birds and steps to make traps.
The competition is one of the most loved among youth in the region during which birds are hunted by using traps made of tree branches.
