Ambassador Orodica explained that the relationship between Qatar and Mexico encompasses a diverse range of areas, including education, economic ties, trade, and political dialogue. Both countries are keen on sharing valuable experiences on matters of significance, reflecting their shared interests and values. The envoy expressed immense pride in the continually promising nature of the bilateral relations between Mexico and Qatar.

Moreover, he explained that a well-defined framework governs the bilateral relationship, with various legal instruments in place to facilitate cooperation, political dialogue, and cultural exchanges. In pursuit of enhancing economic and commercial ties, Mexico has set ambitious goals. Concurrently, Mexico seeks to attract Qatari investment, striving to build a strategic hierarchy that further strengthens ties and promotes free trade between the two countries.

According to the latest data from the Mexico Embassy in Qatar, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, 2022 witnessed a remarkable surge in the commercial exchange between Mexico and Qatar. The total trade value amounted to $252.3m, a notable 60% increase compared to the previous year’s figures of $157.4m. Looking at specific trade patterns, Mexican exports to Qatar in 2022 were valued at $72.3m, showing substantial growth from $58.11m in 2021. The key export items included iron or steel tubes and pipes, motor vehicles for goods transportation, vehicles for people transportation, refrigeration equipment, as well as fresh fruits and nuts. Additionally, a significant milestone was achieved during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, with the first emblematic shipment of Hass avocados from the state of Michoacán arriving in Qatar, paving the way for further trade in increasing quantities.

On the other side, Mexico’s imports from Qatar in 2022 amounted to $180m, compared to $99.1m in 2021. The main imported products comprised raw aluminium, nitrogenous mineral or chemical fertilizers, synthetic filament fabrics, and ethylene polymers in primary forms.
