Cabinet holds regular weekly meeting

Doha: The Cabinet which met yesterday with Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani in the chair approved a draft decision of the Minister of Municipality on regulating the use of plastic bags. 

Some of the decision’s provisions include that institutions, companies and shopping centres are prohibited from using single-use plastic bags in packaging, presenting, circulating, carrying or transporting products and merchandise of all kinds.

According to the decision, single-use plastic bags must be replaced with multi-use plastic bags, biodegradable plastic bags, paper or other “woven” types of bags, as well as other biodegradable materials.

At the outset of the meeting, the cabinet praised the outcomes of the visit by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Iran on May 12 and the following work visit to Turkey. The cabinet also welcomed the outcomes of the Amir’s European tour that began on May 15 and included visits to Slovenia, Spain, Germany, and the UK. 

The cabinet also praised the Amir’s participation in the opening session of the World Economic Forum, taking place in Davos, Switzerland, under the title “History at a Turning Point”. They also praised the content of Amir’s speech which promoted a global goal of peace, security, justice, dignity, cooperation, trust, and mutual respects between countries and peoples. 

The Cabinet also approved a draft agreement between Qatar and Bangladesh, cancelling visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, private, and official passports.
