DOHA: Assistive Technology Center (Mada) and Sasol represented by “Accessible Qatar” initiative have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of e-accessibility and physical accessibility.
The MoU signing was held on the sidelines of the second Gulf Region Education Assistive Technology (GREAT) 2018 conference organized by Mada at Marsa Malaz Kempinski The Pearl-Doha.
The MoU encompasses cooperation between the two parties in assessing the levels of digital and physical accessibility in Qatar, as well as capacity-building initiatives, exchange of expertise and training in the field of digital and physical access. The two sides will also cooperate in raising awareness of the importance of assistive technology to support and integrate persons with disabilities in society.
“We are delighted to partner with Sasol, represented by “Accessible Qatar”, which is recognized for its initiatives in the field of accessibility and integration of persons with disabilities into society,” said Maha Al Mansouri, CEO of Mada.
“This partnership is in line with the role of the Mada AT Center in the implementation of Qatar’s Digital Access and Web Accessibility Policy, through building partnerships, providing assessments, consultation and training for various governmental and non-governmental entities to ensure accessibility to enable persons with disabilities and older persons to access digital content, information and communications technology on an equal basis with their peers,” said Al Mansouri.
“At Mada, we believe that empowerment is achieved through partnerships, technology is part of the solution, and partnership with the private sector is important as this sector can offer a lot through social responsibility initiatives and contributions to raise awareness, achieve accessibility and provide assistive technology for persons with disabilities,” added Al Mansouri.
“At Sasol, we believe in the importance of inclusive society and are supporting the right of all members of society to have equal opportunities to be active,” said Rigard Du Plessis, General Manager of Sasol in Qatar.
“Through our Accessible Qatar Initiative, we have made great progress in accessibility over the past years. We are delighted by the signing of this agreement with Mada, which complements our efforts to build an inclusive society in Qatar,” added Du Plessis.
