Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday concluded his six-nation West African visit after holding talks with the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, at the Presidential Palace in Accra yesterday.

The Emir and the President discussed aspects of supporting and developing the relations and how to deepen the joint cooperation between them in various fields for the benefit of both countries and peoples.

H H the Emir and President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, also witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two governments at the Presidential Palace.

 

The two sides also discussed the overall regional and international developments, especially the most important issues in the Middle East and the African continent. The meeting was attended by Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir as well as a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials from Ghana. 

Emir and the President of Ghana witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two governments, which took place in the Presidential Palace in Accra. 

Both sides witnessed the signing of the agreements on encouraging and protecting investments and air services, as well as two memoranda of understanding on the youth and sports fields. 

The signing ceremony was attended by Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir as well as a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials from Ghana.

Earlier on the arrival of the Emir, an official welcoming ceremony was held, where the Qatari and Ghanaian national anthems were played. The Emir then reviewed the guard of honour and 21 artillery rounds were fired, in honor of the Emir.

Ghana President welcomed the Emir and the accompanying delegation, expressing his appreciation and thanks for responding to the invitation to visit Ghana.  He also appreciated the visit hoping that it will take the bilateral relations to new heights. The Ghanaian President reiterated his country’s keenness to develop bilateral cooperation with Qatar, especially in the energy, infrastructure, air transport, sports, youth and food security fields.

On his part, the Emir thanked  the President and the Ghanaian people for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him and his delegation, affirming the common desire to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in common fields between the two countries.

The Emir also attended a luncheon banquet hosted by President Nana Akufo-Addo, in honour of His Highness and the accompanying delegation, at the Presidential Palace. The banquet was attended by a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials from the Ghanaian side.

The Emir yesterday wrapped up his west Africa tour after an official visit to Ghana. The Emir was seen off upon departure from Kotoka International Airport by Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, along with a number of Their Excellencies Ministers and ranking officials as well as Qatar’s Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana, H E Mohammed Jaber Al Kuwari, and the Ambassador of Ghana to Qatar, Emmanuel Enos. 

The Emir sent a cable to the President, expressing his deep thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying delegation during the visit, which gave him an opportunity to meet with the President and exchange with him views on issues of mutual concern, to discuss means to boost bilateral relations and to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields for the benefit of the two peoples. The Emir wished the President health and happiness and the people of Ghana further progress and prosperity.
