Lusail International Circuit named Most Improved and Biggest Mover in Sustainable Circuits Index 2026
Doha, Qatar: Sustainability has been a defining pillar of Lusail International Circuit (LIC). The circuit holds the FIA Three Star Environmental Accreditation, the highest level of recognition available under the FIA's environmental programme, allowing LIC to be part of an elite duo of global motorsport venues that maintain the highest FIA environmental rating while hosting all three world championship series in a calendar year.
That commitment has now been recognised on a global stage. LIC has been named Most Improved and Biggest Mover in the Sustainable Circuits Index 2026 (SCI), after gaining 17 points and climbing 31 places in this year's global rankings, the largest single year improvement of any circuit assessed. The Sustainable Circuits Index (SCI) serves as a global ESG benchmark, drawing its credibility from a collaborative multi-stakeholder framework. Under the strategic oversight of the non-profit Sustainable Alliance, Enovation Consulting collects comprehensive data on 115 international motorsport venues, which is then rigorously analyzed by Professor Paolo Taticchi of the UCL School of Management across 21 environmental, social, and governance criteria.
Much of the improvement builds directly on the aforementioned Three Star accreditation, which the circuit achieved through measures including a rooftop solar array, a fleet that predominantly uses electric vehicles across operations, and fan facing sustainability initiatives such as recycling stations built from repurposed wood and an interactive recycling wall in the Formula 1 Fan Zone. The SCI report also recognised LIC's approach to accessibility, pointing to the calm, sensory friendly spaces made available to fans during race weekends.

We remain committed to the goals set out in Qatar National Vision 2030, and to playing our part in advancing sustainability across the motorsport industry."
LIC is also a signatory to the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework and continues to expand its environmental, social, and governance initiatives across its events and operations, with particular focus on nature protection, biodiversity enhancement, sustainable event operations, carbon reduction, waste management, and community awareness.
Although the circuit has yet to achieve the index's top rankings, LIC remains dedicated to advancing sustainable motorsport and plans to make steady advancements towards this objective by 2030.
