Doha, Qatar: The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs continues to offer a comprehensive zakat calculation service for companies operating throughout the nation.
This service involves the meticulous review of annual financial statements to determine the precise zakat obligations in accordance with Islamic Sharia. Upon completion, companies receive an official certified letter detailing the calculated zakat amount.
The Head of the Research and Studies Section within the Awqaf's Zakat Services Department, Dr. Issa Nasser Al Sayed, emphasized that this free-of-charge service is available for companies throughout the year.
He pointed out that since early 2025, the department has calculated the zakat of over 100 companies, including sole proprietorships and joint-stock companies, which were informed of the zakat amounts due from them.
The process of reviewing the budget, determining the zakat base, and calculating the amount takes only two working days. It also includes a detailed statement of the zakat due per share in the case of joint-stock companies, Dr. Al Sayed highlighted.
In the pursuit of reaching out to the business sector, Dr. Al Sayed revealed that a field team from the department has visited over 112 companies since early 2025 to familiarize them with the department's services, urge them to perform zakat, and shine a spotlight on zakat's role in achieving social interdependence and driving the development process.
Zakat is a binding Shariah obligation that does not lapse for companies once its conditions are met, and paying it contributes to strengthening social security, bringing blessings and growth to wealth, in addition to its critical role in supporting the eight zakat categories prescribed in the Holy Qur'an, he stressed.
Dr. Al Sayed further indicated that all zakat funds collected are disbursed 100% within Qatar to eligible recipients registered in the department's database, which is the largest of its kind in the country.
He called on companies to utilize the zakat calculation service by submitting their financial statements via email to infozakat.gov.qa, subject to the requirement that the statements are in Arabic and enclosed with explanatory notes for the budget items.
