DOHA: The Ministry of Administrative Development is to enhance professional skills of a large number of government employees ahead of their promotions.
The Institute of Administrative Development under the ministry will help hone skills of nearly 14,000 employees as part of its 2015-2016 training programme.
The programme will cover employees of various ministries and government agencies.
According to a Cabinet decision, it is mandatory for the employees to undergo the ministry’s extensive professional training programme to be eligible for promotions.
“This year’s programme is different from the previous year in terms of the number of attendees and the number of programmes.
“Last year, we covered over 9,000 employees. This time the number is bigger. Nearly 700 programmes have been designed for the trainees this time compared to 500 in the previous year,” said Hadi bin Sayed Al Khayarin, Director, Institute of Administrative Development.
The training programme aims to improve professional skills of individual employees to enable them to face professional challenges awaiting them in their next level of career.
With the support of expertise in the concerned fields, the ministry has designed 699 extensive programmes this time.
Al Khayarin said: “The institute is bringing in foreign expertise to implement the training programme. The experts are from different Arab countries.
“The ministry has made elaborate arrangements for the programme. Training materials are in place and have been reviewed by specialists.
“Equipped with modern training gadgets, 40 huge halls have been arranged to conduct training,” he added.
Training is important for the employees as it includes evaluation by trainers whether the individual employees is capable of handling possible challenges he might face in the next level of his career.
There will also be sessions on self-assessment. Feedback will be collected from the trainees regarding value addition, Al Khayarin said.
He said almost 98 percent of the employees who took part in 2014-15 training programme said the programme had added value to their professional skills.
According to Al Khayarin, the 2015-2016 programme will not cover professionals such as doctors, engineers, pharmacists and other professionals in the government agencies.
Since these are specialised areas, the concerned institutions have been directed to conduct programmes.
The training programme by the institute will cover only the administrative staff of the ministries and government agencies.
It has been designed to cover nearly 14,000 employees in three levels, according to their professional hierarchy.
A total of 208 programmes has been designed for the employees in grades one to four.
An estimated 4,160 staff take part.
About 3,960 employees in grades five to seven will attend 198 programmes.
Nearly 80 programmes have been designed for employees in grades eight to 11.
A total of 1,580 staff will attend these programmes.
