Doha: The Ministry of Education launched an electronic pre-registration in private schools for the next academic year, which aims to decrease the amount of mistakes in the enrollment process.

The online portal will allow parents to know the number of the students on the waiting list and the number of seats available in the required grade in all schools.

The Department of Private School Licenses organised a workshop to introduce the new system, its importance and the process of early registration to ensure that all students have seats before the academic year 2018/2019.

Director of Private Schools Licensing Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Hamad Al Ghali said that there was too much demand on private and public schools during the pre-registration phase, something that prompted the ministry to launch the phase electronically as well to ease the burden. He said the new system will help guarantee the students are enrolled for the new academic year.

One of the main advantages of the system is that it will oblige schools to stick to their capacity allocated by the Ministry of Education to ensure the safety and security of students. The system also does not require an acceptance exam or an interview.

Available vacant seats will be distributed by the school according to classes he added, noting that the system does not allow conducting an exam or an interview if there are no seats because the online registration will show the student's educational background and his/her progress in the last two years, and this will help the school to know the student, the school, curriculum and class.

Parents will be able to follow the admission of their child through the reference number received by text messages sent on their mobile number. Al Ghali stressed that schools and KGs must enter the applications in the system and decide the date and time of the interview and inform the parents by sending a text message.

Schools and KGs must verify the telephone numbers to facilitate communication with parents, Al Ghali emphasized, and adding that in case the seat is booked and fees have been paid the student's name will be removed from all the waiting lists.

All students must be registered in the NSIS system with the beginning of the academic year Al Ghali stressed.
