Minister of Public Health H E Dr Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari met yesterdaywith HRH Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, who is visiting Qatar.
During the meeting, a number of topics of common interest were discussed, especially in the field of combating blindness and the role of the State of Qatar in helping children with vision problems in a number of countries through Qatar Creating Vision.
HRH Sophie visited the new hospitals of Hamad Medical Corporation in Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City and Sidra Medical Center, where they inspected the Ophthalmology facilities in both institutions, equipped with the highest level of technology and equipment. The Countess of Wessex expressed her appreciation for the “Qatar Creating Vision” initiative and the support provided by the Qatar Fund for Development for this initiative, pointing out that it has caused a real change in the lives of these children and the lives of their families.
She was pleased to visit Qatari medical facilities, pointing out that their employees have a great experience that should be exchanged with other countries. HRH Sophie called for health education in the community, for securing medical professionals worldwide, and for providing them with the support they need to continue their professional development so that they can help more visually impaired people. Dr Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari said that Qatar is still at the forefront of the region, whereas it has world-class health facilities to diagnose and treat eye diseases in children and adults. She added that Qatar is committed to sharing experiences internationally through initiatives similar to Qatar Creating Vision to help other countries combat and prevent eye diseases.
The visit comes as part of a tour of the Countess, including Qatar and Bangladesh, in cooperation with Orbis charity organisation to combat blindness, in order to shed light on the projects of Qatar Creating Vision, an initiative launched by the Qatar Fund for Development and sponsored by Orbis.
HRH Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, is a global ambassador to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), a sponsor of Vision 2020, the Right to Sight initiative and a leading supporter of Qatar Creating Vision.
