DOHA: The CEO of Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, stressed the company’s commitment to the development objectives and principles of sustainability in all its internal and external projects, which are over 60 projects in more than 24 countries with investments worth over $35bn.
Speaking at the opening session of the Sustainability Summit, he said: “As Qatari Diar’s flagship project, Lusail City embodies our commitment to sustainability by offering a better living environment for its residents.
“From regulations guidelines planning, to developing its infrastructure and promoting the use of technology, ending by implementing best operation and management practices, Lusail City is sustainable and comprehensively planned city that caters to its residents and visitors alike, signifying Qatar’s progress on a grand scale.”
He added: “Lusail City has embraced the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) as one of the main sustainability standards that guide the design, construction and operations of the various building in the city both government owned or private since establishment.
“Lusail City’s embracement of the GSAS sustainability Assessment System means that the design of each building in the city will allow them to conserve around 30 percent of energy and carbon emission when compared to average buildings.”
The CEO of Qatari Diar stressed: “Additionally, Lusail City has been working on implementing an integrated public transportation system that links the Doha Metro with Lusail City tram. This comes, in addition to offering supplying all the necessary services within the premises of the to lower the need to use transportation and, as a result, lower the carbon emissions.
He said: “Lusail City’s integration of latest technology in its infrastructure projects represents another achievement in our mission to sustainability.
“For instance, the City relied on building local cooling stations to fulfill the buildings’ need of air conditioning, which commonly accounts for around two-thirds of the average consumer consumption of energy.
It also worked on equipping the City towers with an integrated natural gas network, as well as an Automatic Waste Collection System technology for the first time in the Middle East. The need for shelter has been one of the top necessities for human throughout history.”
