DOHA: Qatar’s Nebras and Japan’s JERA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the sidelines of the 12th meeting of Qatar-Japan Joint Economic Committee held in Tokyo yesterday.
The MoU was signed to develop joint business opportunities. This was announced by H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry.
Addressing the opening session, Dr Al Sada stressed the close and long-standing relations between the State of Qatar and Japan. He said the economic relations are the driving force of the strategic partnership between the two friendly countries.
Dr Al Sada also praised the vital role of the Qatar-Japan Joint Economic Committee in expanding relations between the two countries.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Committee has succeeded in enhancing cooperation in many fields. He noted that the value of Qatari exports to Japan in 2017 reached about QR42.12bn while the value of imports amounted to about QR5.75bn.
He expressed his happiness with the active economic relations between the two friendly countries and the selection of the Japanese company Chiyoda to carry out the engineering works with the maritime facilities of the expansion projects in the North Field.
The Minister stressed Qatar’s keenness to maintain its position as a reliable and reliable source in supplying Japan and all its customers around the world with its needs of liquefied natural gas.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation in all fields, especially in business, civil aviation, industry and trade, health care, education, infrastructure and investment.
The Japanese side was invited to participate in infrastructure projects in the State of Qatar through public-private partnership in the two friendly countries.
Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, and the accompanying delegation, also participated in the meeting of the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial held in the Japanese capital Tokyo.
During the meeting, Dr Al Sada presented Qatar’s view regarding the future of hydrogen energy and its uses, and the role of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the main and economical source of hydrogen.
