DOHA: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has spent more than QR80m to provide food, shelters, educational opportunities and social care to Syrian refugees in Jordan since the beginning of crises in their country.
So far, more than 600,000 people benefitted from the projects. RAF plans to hire more housing units to accommodate the growing number of Syrian orphans and widows at a cost of QR3m in Jordan.
“It is also part of the plan to upgrade the existing health facilities at a cost of more than QR1.5m and to continue support the fund for treating wounds at QR3m. Additional humanitarian aid is being dispatched at a cost of QR1.5m.
Details about aid from RAF to Syrian refugees in Jordan was given by Dr Ayed bin Dabssan Al Qahtani, Chairman, Board of Trustees, and General Director, RAF in a workshop on supporting refugees organised by Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in Amman.
The workshop was attended by Arab donor organisations and German agency for international cooperation (GIZ).
RAF did not leave any stone unturned to support hundreds of Syrian refugees along the board of Syria and Jordan, said Al Qahtani.
RAF gave priority to provide shelters because there are a large number of women, children and senior citizens among Syrian refugees. It is the first organisation that provided portable homes replacing tents to accommodate the refugees in Al Zatari refugee camp. RAF dispatched 1,000 portable houses to Al Zatari camp and other refugee camps in Jordan. More than 3,000 portable homes were provided. The shelter project was financed by citizens and expatriates in Qatar. To collect the donations, RAF launched several campaigns entitled “replace tents with portable homes”.
RAF made partnerships with Jordanian local authorities and international partners to meet the requirements of orphans, poor families and refugees in Jordan.
They are Ministry of Health of Jordan, UNHCR, WFP, refugee camps operators and local charity organization.
