Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, QIIB Chairman and Managing Director, confirmed that the Qatar Economic Forum (QEF) that was held under the sponsorship of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, represented a genuine desire to create an economic strategy that may facilitate the engagement in constructive dialogue and encourage cooperation among various nations and their people, to ensure a better future for all.

During his participation in the Forum’s opening session and its sub-sequent discussions from New York, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani stated: “The forum held under the title -New Horizons for Tomorrow- represents an optimistic outlook for the future and a desire to

develop a spirit of economic mutuality and cooperation among the various nations of the world, which is an essential factor in reaching higher and more appropriate levels of progress and development worldwide.”

Sheikh Dr. Khalid noted he was overtaken by a deep sense of national pride after hearing the opening statement of H H the Amir, which was an open invitation for dialogue and cooperation.

He noted that the statement accurately pinpointed the problems being faced by the global economy during these trying times, and emphasised the importance of cooperation, communication and the creation and implementation of economic plans and strategies, as catalysts for the improvement of the current Global status quo.

Sheikh Dr. Khalid stated: “The importance of the first edition of the QEF is represented in the fact that it was held during a difficult period and under challenging circumstances. Yet, it managed to become a global platform for the expression of differing views, opinions and suggestions, serving as a vehicle for economic progress in sectors, where workers were always in need of a medium to express their ideas and share their experiences, and through which they could build partnerships. The forum definitely left an overall positive impact on all participating parties and countries.”

At the Forum, Sheikh Dr. Khalid also expressed his opinion regarding the direction that should be taken by the Qatari business sector, encouraging regional and international cooperation.

“Economies across the globe have become highly inter-reactive and interconnected, and this was especially evident after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This forced us to conduct more thorough analysis and design more elaborate strategies to circumvent any potential future challenges that may replicate those imposed by the virus.”

Sheikh Dr. Khalid elaborated: “There are a lot of experiences that can be drawn from Qatar’s multiple successes in dealing with the economic challenges that were imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which can benefit other countries.
“Likewise, the Qatari economy, and particularly the Qatari Business sector, may equally benefit from the successes and constructive experiences of other countries. In this lies the main goal of the Qatar Economic Forum- the exchange of ideas, cooperation and interaction of various nations, towards a better future for all.”
