A four-star performance from points leaders Al Sadd yesterday helped the Doha giants hammer Al Rayyan 4-0 at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.
Baghdad Bounedjah (33) and 2018 Asian Player of the Year Abdelkarim Hassan (35) fired two goals in the first half before a brace from emerging star Akram Hassan Afif (62, penalty and 72) powered Al Sadd to their convincing fan in front of home fans.
Al Rayyan’s veteran striker Sebastian Soria was given the marching orders in the 76th minute after picking up his second yellow of the match. Soria’s team mates Dame Traore (69), Mowafak Awad Ahmed (72) and Ahmed El Sayed (85) were also booked in the feisty clash under lights.
Also yesterday, Al Duhail were held to a goalless draw by former champions Al Gharafa.
After 17 rounds, former champions Al Sadd lead the points table with a tally of 44.
Al Duhail, last year’s runaway winners, are in second place with 40 points. Al Sailiyah (31 point) are in third place while Al Rayyan (30) are in fourth place. Al Ahli (29 points) are in fifth place.
