Faleh Suwead Al Ajami is seen with QEF President Hamad Abdulrahman Al Attiyah after winning the Amir’s Golden Sword on the final day of the three-day Show Jumping Festival at the Outdoor Arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF).
Experienced young rider Faleh Suwead Al Ajami yesterday posted the biggest win of his career by guiding Carport to victory in the Big Tour competition on day three of the Amir’s Golden Sword Championships.
Carport, aged 13, yesterday clocked 78.41 seconds for an impressive total score of 01.92 points as Al AJami won the Amir’s Golden Sword over a field of seven riders on the Outdoor Arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF).
Al Ajami received the Golden Sword from the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at a special prize distribution ceremony held at Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC). Al Ajami bagged the top prize of QR 14,000 and a new car.
Awad Alqahtani, astride Cassander Van Het Bremhof, finished second to win QR 11,500.
Salmeen Sultan Al Suwaidi (Cantaro 32, 82.55 seconds, 11.78 points) grabbed the third spot worth QR 8,750.
Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi (Fiji, 75.52 seconds, 14.20 points, QR 6,250) and Mubarak Yousuf Al Rumaihi (Vivaldi K, 88.67 seconds, 20.00 points, QR 4,750) completed the top five entries in the feature competition of the three-day championships.
Al Ajami, 33, yesterday said: “This is a big win for me. I had never won such a prestigious title before. It was an honour to receive the Golden Sword from the Amir, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. I wish I can continue to improve my performances in future competitions also.”
He added: “I want do well in the Olympic Qualifiers and reach the Tokyo Games in 2020. That is my wish. I take this opportunity to thank the Qatar Equestrian Federation for doing a great job to host this event. I would like to thank the QEF President Hamad Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, Secretary General Darwish Badr and Tournament Director Ali Al Rumaihi for their guidance over the last few years. The QEF continues to back young riders that helps them improve their performances.”
In the Medium Tour, Cyrine Cherif produced a flawless routine with Gerlin VD Waterkant to win the 125/135cm competition. Gerlin VD Waterkant clocked a time of 76.90 seconds for a tally of 01.40 points as Cherif bagged the top prize of QR 9,625.
Mohammed Saeed Haidan, astride Quick Step, finished in second place (75.86 seconds, 01.61 points, QR 7,000) while Jaber Rashid Al Marri (Canavaro De Muze E T, 72.12 seconds, 08.69 QR 5,250) secured the third spot.
Rami Younis (Inzaghi Van Molenheide, 83.21 seconds, QR 3,500) and Sultan Rashid Al Marri (Le Premier, 78.11 seconds, QR 2,450) completed the top five.
Also yesterday, Mohammed Al Ghazali paired up with Maradonna to win the Small Tour competition. Maradonna clocked a time 64.16 seconds as Al Ghazali managed a tally of 01.30 points in the 110/120cm competition. Al Ghazali won QR 5,000.
Ali Mohammed Al Marri, astride Fernhill Friendly Touch (61.57 seconds, 03.71 points, QR 4,000) finished in second spot. Hussain Saeed Haidan (Belucci Van ‘T Vleminkhof) finished third.
