DOHA: Hundreds of tiny tots of Birla Public school made a beeline with their soft toys and laid them at the base of a gun mounted on the open stage in front of the whole school as the students stood in awed silence watching the children appealing to the world leadership to refrain from war and grant them the freedom to live a peaceful childhood.

This act was a frame from a series of pageantry that the school’s art department organised as part of sending a message to the world that peace is the need of the day.

At the start of the pageantry was a pristine world of peace and harmony that existed in the lap of nature which was suddenly interrupted by man’s greed for more and more wealth which resulted in war and devastation. The disruption in peace has been felt over the history of mankind reverberated in the hearts of men across the centuries.

Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani initiated efforts as early as 1995 towards peace across the continents which flame the Emir H H  Sheikh Thamin bin Hamad Al Thani has been carrying forward.

Students and staff left multi-colour thumb prints on canvas conveying the message that different though we are as human beings we are united as mankind and so, we must live in peace.

A long winding procession of children and pageantry proclaiming world peace in loud and clear language circumnavigated the school sending a message that Birla students demand to be heard and peace is their birth right.
