ANKARA: Formula 1 team Ferrari on Monday announced extension of their Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc contract until the end of 2024.

"Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow is pleased to announce that it has extended its contract with Charles Leclerc," Ferrari said on their website.

Leclerc said he is very happy to stay with Ferrari.

"This past season, driving for the most illustrious team in Formula 1 has been a dream year for me," he said.

"I cannot wait to enjoy an even deeper relationship with the team after what has been an intense and exciting 2019. I’m keen to see what the future holds and I can’t wait to get going again next season."

Having joined Ferrari in 2019, the 22-year-old driver became Ferrari's youngest ever pole-sitter in Bahrain Grand Prix.

Leclerc won the pole position trophy seven times in 2019, recording two Grand Prix victories and 10 podium finishes this year with Ferrari.
