New York: The State of Kuwait, on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, commended the efforts of the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States of America in their efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement, secure the release of hostages and prisoners, and ensure the safe and sustainable flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
This came in a statement by the State of Kuwait on behalf of the GCC member states before the Fourth Committee on Decolonization at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The statement considered this agreement a step that should pave the way for a serious political process that ends the occupation and paves the way for a just and comprehensive peace.
The statement affirmed the GCC states' commitment to the unity of the Palestinian territories as an indispensable condition for the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with what has been established and agreed upon through relevant international resolutions, Security Council resolutions, and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.
It explained that settlement policies, the construction of the separation wall, and the fragmentation of the Palestinian territories between the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem are all practices that undermine opportunities for peaceful coexistence and empty any political process of its substance.
