Geneva: The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its categorical rejection of all forms of violence against women and girls, including violence against mothers, describing such acts as grave human rights violations and assaults on human dignity. It stressed that the consequences of such violence extend beyond women themselves to affect families and society, undermining efforts to achieve equality and sustainable development.
The statement was delivered by Second Secretary at Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Abdulrahman Sultan Al Marzouqi, during an interactive dialogue on the report of the UN special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, its causes and consequences. The discussion took place under Agenda Item 3 of the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Al Marzouqi said Qatar continues to strengthen its legal and institutional framework to protect and empower women and to ensure that mothers have access to the necessary health, social and psychological services. He added that Qatar’s labour law provides special protections for working women, including a prohibition on employment in hazardous or health-damaging occupations and the provision of paid maternity leave. He also expressed Qatar’s deep concern over the grave violations of the fundamental rights of mothers in conflict zones, particularly in Palestine and Sudan.
