QMMF’s popular riders headed by multiple national champion Saeed Al Sulaiti will be battling for top honours in a new Moto2 series against Leopard Racing Team, it was announced yesterday.

The six-leg series will be the fourth competition in the hugely popular Qatar Racing Online Championship (QORC), Amro Al Hamad, Executive Director of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), said yesterday.

“The fourth event of QORC event starts on Tuesday at 8:00pm,” Al Hamad announced yesterday.

“The QMMF Racing Team will be represented by Saeed Al Sulaiti, Jassim Al Thani, Soud Al Thani and Hamad Al Sahouti,” he added. “The Leopard Racing Team won the Moto2 championship last year. They will be represented by Marcos Ramirez, Xavier Artigas and Dennis Foggia. Lorenzo Dalla Porta and Andrea Locatelli will share the fourth spot during the series for Leopard Racing Team,” the QMMF Executive Director added.

Al Hamad said the competition winners will be decided on the collective tally of points the teams muster over the course of the week. “The riders will be battling for team points. There are eight riders in total.

Each rider collects points but their effort goes to the team tally. “Meaning it’s not important where you finish - whether you finish first and the rest of your team gets late positions, it won’t help.

“The riders have to pull up their team-mates and ensure maximum points are collected,” Al Hamad explained. “I met Leopard Racing Team officials during the FIM Meetings in Monaco. I was seeking opportunities of collaboration with them as they are one of the leading teams in Moto2 racing,” Al Hamad said. “It so happened that they found out about the second edition of QORC. We came in touch again and the idea of putting four of our top riders against four of theirs was born. We have been planning for this new series for the last couple of weeks,” he added.

QMMF concluded the WRC8 series yesterday, their third online event following highly successful Touring Car Championship and the MotoGP series in the last three months. The online races have gained in popularity in Qatar and the region after it was held for cars and bikes in April.
