Prague, May 23 (QNA) - GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi affirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries remain committed to promoting global security and stability in partnership with regional and international partners amid rapid geopolitical shifts and mounting security and economic challenges.

Speaking during a session on Gulf-European strategic relations at the GLOBSEC 2026 Global Security Forum in Prague on Saturday, Al Budaiwi said the region has recently witnessed developments that have had a significant impact on security and stability. He noted that GCC member states have continued diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and advancing dialogue and diplomacy to preserve regional security and stability.

He stressed the importance of protecting air and maritime security, ensuring freedom of navigation, safeguarding supply chains, and maintaining stability in global energy markets, emphasizing that Gulf stability remains a key pillar of the global economy and international maritime security.

Al Budaiwi added that recent developments have demonstrated that the security of Europe and the Middle East is more interconnected than ever, noting that instability in the Gulf and surrounding waterways directly affects the European economy, global energy security, supply chains, and international stability.

He emphasized that the stability of the Gulf is no longer solely a regional issue but has become a shared international interest.

Addressing the future of Gulf-European relations, Al Budaiwi said both sides are seeking to expand cooperation across a wide range of areas. He added that the upcoming Gulf-European summit is expected to further strengthen ties and advance shared interests, stressing the significance of achieving practical outcomes that reinforce existing cooperation.
