Doha: Minister of Economy of Malaysia H E Dr. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed said that his country shares the same concern with gas exporting countries regarding the gas industry in light of the threats related to the variables resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and market fluctuations that threaten the recovery of the global economy, in addition to the pressures of increasing certainty on the general economic environment and its impact on the industry.
In a speech at the 6th GECF Summit, he said that natural gas will play an important role in the long run, especially in light of the transformations the world is witnessing with everyone entering a transitional phase that requires clean energy with low carbon emissions.
Minister stressed the need to strengthen dialogue between gas producing countries with the aim of exchanging experiences and making gas the preferred fuel in the energy mix during the transitional period. He pointed out that Malaysia has put in place various policies to achieve a low carbon and fossil fuel economy, in addition to a reliance on clean energy.
