Philharmonic to hold open-air concert ‘Football Classics’ at Msheireb

Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) in collaboration with Msheireb Downtown Doha will hold an open-air concert series titled Baraha Orchestra on January 26 and 27, coinciding with the AFC Asian Cup tournament’s rest days.

The first concert, “Football Classics,” is scheduled for this weekend, at 7pm. To be conducted by Johannes Vogel, the programme includes iconic compositions such as Ricky Martin’s “La Copa de la Vita,” Shakira’s “Waka Waka,” and John Williams’ “Star Wars – Main Title.”

The 90-minute musical journey will blend football and Gulf folk traditions, celebrating the universal language of football. Also included are Alan Menken: Aladdin “Suite from “Aladdin,”; Falco: Rock me Amadeus, Amadeus; Traditional Qatar: Haya Haya; John Barry: Suite from James Bond 007; Joey Tempest: Final Countdown; Elmer Bernstein: The Magnificent Seven (Theme); Agnus & Malcom Young: Thunderstruck; John Williams: Harry Potter “Hedwig´s Theme; Jack White: Seven Nation Army; and Traditional Qatar: Hayo Fareeky.

QPO Deputy Executive Director, Dr. Nasser Sahim, expressed excitement about contributing international sounds to enhance the cultural experience. “The AFC Asian Cup 2023 brings people together through the universal language of football, and we are excited to layer in international sounds for an elevated cultural experience. We’re thrilled to perform at Barahat Msheireb in Msheireb Downtown Doha to celebrate the diversity and unity of the games.”

Msheireb Properties Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Dr. Hafiz Ali Abdullah, highlighted the uniqueness of Msheireb Downtown Doha as an ideal place for residents and visitors to enjoy the tournament. Hosting the ‘Baraha Orchestra’ collaboration with QPO, he emphasised the extraordinary encounter it will provide for the diverse audience gathered in Qatar for the AFC Asian Cup 2023.

The Football Classics concert will be followed by the “Golden Gulf Classics” on February 4 and 5, to be conducted by Kamoliddin Urinbaev. This diverse programme features compositions from Dana Alfardan, Nasser Nasseb Sahim, Amer Jaafer, Qoutayba Neaimi, Nodirbek Makharov, and more, presenting a rich collection of musical styles titled Fjiri, Spirit of Maqam, Dance, Polaris, Al Freasa Ashory, Al Barehaa, Medley Iraqi, Black Rose, Khamary – Samry Ma Agwa, Ouverture, Adsani, Lewaa Dance, and Been Al Asser.
