Al Rayyan marched to a deserving 2-0 victory against Al Khor in Week 4 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Janoub Stadium yesterday while Al Duhail edged Al Wakrah 4-2.

The Lions’ marksmen were Franck Kom (66th minute) and Abdelaziz Hatem (75th minute).

It was Al Rayyan’s first victory, after three successive draws, and they now have six points, while Al Khor remained on four points.

A well-fought first half was largely dominated by Al Rayyan but ended goalless.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute from a set piece taken short as Mowafak Awad whipped in a low cross from the right which Kom met with the faintest of touches to steer in at the back post. The frustration following the goal boiled over leading to Wagner receiving his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

With a one-man advantage Al Rayyan turned up the pressure and quickly secured their second goal of the night. Abdelaziz Hatem hit a sumptuous 25-yard, left-footed shot which swerved from left to right and struck the back of the net past a helpless goalkeeper.

At the Al Sadd Stadium, Al Duhail were leading 2-1 against Al Wakrah.

Mohamed Benyettou gave Al Wakrah the lead in the third minute of the match, which turned out to be the Algerian striker’s fourth goal in as many matches while Ali Afif equalised for Al Duhail in the 22nd minute and thereafter Mohammed Muntari scored his first goal since March to put Duhail ahead in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Al Wakrah fought back with Ismail Mahmoud netting in the equaliser four minutes on resumption, to make it 2-2

Al Duhail, however, bounced back to take the lead with Muntari netting his second goal of the match in the 65th minute to make the scoreline read as 3-2. Al Duhail put the issue beyond doubt with Almoez Ali dispatching a stoppage time penalty past the Al Wakrah goalkeeper to make it 4-2.
