Jakarta: Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture has set a target to develop 151,554 hectares of coconut downstream production areas in 2026 to boost industrial raw material supply and increase the commodity's added value, an official said Wednesday.
The target for 2026 is supported by a budget of around 427 billion rupiah (about 23.8 million U.S. dollars), excluding the cost of seeds, said Agus Rosyid, agricultural product quality inspector at the ministry's directorate general of plantations, during a webinar in Jakarta.
The target represents a significant increase compared to the previous year's program, which covered 1,975 hectares with a budget of approximately 10.92 billion rupiah.
Rosyid noted that 28 provinces are currently included in the program. The government will provide assistance packages comprising coconut seeds, organic fertilizer, and financial support for land preparation and planting.
Indonesia is currently the world's second-largest coconut producer, with annual production of around 2.1 million tons.
