DOHA: Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art will launch its second student exhibition, featuring winners of a student art competition which saw hundreds of entries from Independent and international schools in Qatar.
“Mathaf Student Art Exhibition: Black and White”, which resulted from the competition organised by the Mathaf Education Department in the fall of 2013, opens on Saturday.
All schools were invited to participate and the museum received over 300 submissions from schools in and outside Doha. Students created work ranging from installations, videos, paintings, mixed media, sculptures and photographs.
The museum has selected the winning works that will be presented to the public on Saturday at 3pm.
Students, families and the public are invited to join the exhibition opening celebrating students’ artistic expressions.
Winning artworks have been selected by a judging panel, including staff from Qatar Museums, the Public Art Department, Katara Art Centre and Msheireb Art Centre, in addition to Mathaf staff from the Education and Curatorial departments.
The panel artworks based on concept originality, inventive use of material and media, creative expression, understanding of the “black and white” theme and artist statement.
The selection features works by students ACS Doha International School, Al Arqam Academy for Girls, Al Hekma International School, Ali Bin Abi Talib Independent School for Boys, Al Khor International School, Al Manara School for Boys, Al Salam Kindergarten for Girls, Al Shahaniya Preparatory Secondary Independent School for Boys, Amna Bint Wahab Independent School for Girls, Birla Public School, Cambridge International School for Girls, Compass International Private School, Doha British School, Doha College, Doha Home Educators, Doha Modern Indian School, Dukhan English School, Dukhan Preparatory Secondary School for Boys, English Modern School, Hayat Universal School, Ibn Taymiyyah Independent School for Boys, International School of London in Qatar, Lycée Bonaparte, Lycée Franco-Qatarien Voltaire, Modern Indian School, Newton International School, Noor Al Khaleej International School, Qatar Academy, Qatar Academy - Al Khor, Qatar Academy – Sidra, Roqaya Independent School for Girls, Saad Bin Abi Waqas Independent School for Boys, SEK international School of Qatar, Shantiniketan Indian School, Sherborne Qatar, The American School of Doha, The German International School Doha, The Gulf English School and Um Al Amad Independent School for Girls.
