Action from the Amir Cup match between Qatar SC and Muaither at the Grand Hamad Stadium yesterday.
A goal from former Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o helped Qatar SC to edge past Muaither 1-0 while second Division side Al Markhiya SC won the eight goal thriller against Al Kharaitiyat SC 5-3 to advance into the third round of the Amir Cup.
At Grand Hamad Stadium yesterday, Eto’o scored the lone match winning goal in the 81st minute to give Qatar a narrow win.
The win was the second one for Qatar SC against Muaither with in a span of five days.
On Wednesday, Qatar SC had defeated Muaither by an identical margin in the QSL play-off match to retain their place in next season’s QSL.
Qatar SC next play Al Ahli in the third round match.
In the other match, Al Markhiya helped by goals from Abdulla Fahad A Hajri, Ouday Khaled Abduljaffal, Uche Kalu, Osam Musa Al Oun and Hamza Sanhaji, advanced into the third round.
At the end of half time Markhiya were leading 4-1.
In the second half, Al Kharaitiyat made strong recovery to reduce the margin but a last minute goal put the issue beyond doubt for Al Markhiya.
Al Markhiya started on a flourish by scoring four goals within a span of 16 minutes.
They opened the goal account in the ninth minute, added a second one three minutes later and the third one came in the 18th minute and the fourth goal came in the 25th minute.
Al Kharaitiyat pulled one back in the 40th minute through Valentin Marius Lazar to make it 4-1 going into the half time break.
In the second half, Al Kharaitiyat scored in 70 and 86 minute, through Lazar and Abdurahman Abakar Mohammad, to make it 4-3 but a last minute goal gave Al Markhiya the advantage and a place in the third round where they will take on Al Shahaniya.
