Doha, Qatar: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), in cooperation with the Embassy of Egypt in Qatar, organised a distinctive tasting event on Sunday in Hall 32 at Katara, celebrating the masterpieces of Egyptian cuisine and its rich heritage.
The event was attended by the General Manager of Katara H E Professor Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti and Ambassador of Egypt to Qatar H E Walid Fahmy Al-Faqi.
It also witnessed a remarkable presence of ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Qatar, along with an elite group of cultural and media figures and an audience of Arab culture and heritage enthusiasts. Held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the event combined the fragrance of authentic Egyptian flavours with the spirit of cultural interaction between peoples.
The event aimed to highlight the richness and diversity of Egyptian cuisine, a key component of Arab cultural heritage. Guests enjoyed a unique tasting experience featuring koshari — Egypt’s most famous traditional dish, celebrated across the Arab world. On this occasion, Dr. Al-Sulaiti expressed his delight with this cultural collaboration, emphasizing that Katara seeks, through such events, to promote cultural dialogue and human connection among nations, considering cuisine an integral part of cultural identity and civilizational heritage.
The Egyptian Ambassador extended his gratitude and appreciation to Katara for its continuous support and distinguished efforts in showcasing Egyptian culture, saying: “I extend my sincere thanks to the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, represented by my dear brother Dr. Khalid Al-Sulaiti, and to the entire supporting team for the excellent organisation and beautiful arrangement. We are delighted with this initiative, which allows us to highlight an aspect of Egyptian culture represented by our rich cuisine. Koshari is one of the most popular dishes in Egypt and is regarded as one of the most prominent symbols of Egyptian identity par excellence. The dish combines simplicity and diversity, having originated in the nineteenth century with roots among Egypt’s working classes. It soon became a national favourite that brought together all social classes. Today, koshari stands as a cultural emblem of Egyptian cuisine, enjoyed both at home and in restaurants alike.
