Doha: A female principal of a college in Madhya Pradesh, central India, suffered grave injuries after a student poured petrol on her and set her ablaze, The Times of India reported.

The 54-year-old principal was picking leaves from a tree when the attack occurred, which left her body with 80% burns.

The student had allegedly burnt his principal due to him having completed his exams in July but was yet to receive his marksheet. The female principal is currently hospitalized and is in a critical condition.

The student had also reportedly attacked another college professor with a knife four months earlier over the same reason.

In its report, Al Arabiya mentioned that the student had attempted to take his own life following the attack on the principal, but was rescued in due time.
The student however received 40% burns to his body and is being treated while held in custody.
