Lausanne: Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President, H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani participated in the first meeting of the Commission for Public Affairs and Social Development through Sport (CPASDS) at the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which was held on Saturday in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The QOC President was nominated for membership of the Commission recently. The aim of the Commission is to involve IOC members and non-members in the latest developments and successes of the IOC.
Sheikh Joaan took part in the meeting to build strong relations between QOC and the IOC members at all levels, as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience with members of the national Olympic committees and other Olympic institutions through a series of agreements and joint programs and projects.
The 35-member Commission seeks to advise IOC’s president and executive office on strategies for the development of sport and the Olympic Movement in society in addition to promote IOC’s role as a leading think institution, a strong representative on the global sports scene and a key player in promoting international development and peace.
