Qatar’s IPI up by 1.2% in July 2021

Doha: Qatar’s Industrial Production Index for July 2021 stood at 100.3 points, showing an increase of 1.2 percent compared to the previous month (June 2021).

When compared on year-on-year (Y-o-Y) basis, the IPI index has decreased by 6.3 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2020, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) show.

The index of the Mining sector showed an increase of 1.2 percent compared to the previous month (June 2021), as a result of the increase in the quantities of “Crude oil petroleum and natural gas” by 1.2 percent, while “Other mining and quarrying” showed a decrease of 5.2 percent. When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (July 2020), the IPI of Mining decreased by 6.7 percent.

The index of the Manufacturing sector showed an increase of 0.8 percent compared to the previous month (June 2021) as a result of the increase in “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 12.3 percent, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 1.0 percent.

However, a decrease was recorded in “Printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 17.8 percent, “Manufacture of Cement and other non-metallic mineral products” by 8.7 percent, “Manufacture of food products” by 6.5 percent, “Manufacture of basic metals” by 6.1 percent, “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 3.7 percent, and “Manufacture of beverages” by 3.1 percent.

On the other hand, in terms of annual change, comparing to July 2020, a decrease of 4.1 percent was recorded, affected by the following groups: “Manufacture of beverages” by 15.9 percent, “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 10.2 percent, “Manufacture of food products” by 6.7 percent, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 5.0 percent. However, an increase was recorded in “Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 11.6 percent, “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 9.0 percent, and “Manufacture of basic metals” by 3.4 percent.

The index of the Electricity sector showed an increase of 16.0 percent in the production of “Electricity” group between July 2021 and the previous month (June 2021), while the annual decrease (comparing with July 2020), was 5.7 percent. The index of the “Water” sector showed an increase of 2.4 percent in the production of ‘‘Water’’ group between July 2021 and the previous month (June 2021), while the annual decrease (comparing with July 2020), was 20.8 percent.
