Doha: The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SCDL) has broken ground for Al Wakrah Stadium, the first proposed host venue to be delivered ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The second phase of construction is under way on-site at Al Wakra, with HBK contracting company carrying out the work.
Major excavation has begun in preparation for laying of the foundations in September. This phase of construction is scheduled to finish around March 2015, with the 40,000-seat stadium expected to be completed in 2018. The stadium will be surrounded by a 560,000 square-metre precinct.
