Siemens Qatar and a subsidiary of Mannai Corporation—Manweir—yesterday signed an agreement to develop repair services for compressors and steam turbines used in the oil, gas and petrochemicals industries, which is in line with Qatar’s drive to achieve self-sufficiency.
The agreement also highlights Siemens commitment to localising supply chain needs in Qatar and supporting Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar Petroleum’s Tawteen initiative.
The companies agreed to cooperate in the development of rotating equipment repairs in Qatar using Siemens technology and expert personnel along with Manweir’s facilities and manpower to repair equipment used in Qatar’s energy sector. This will prolong the lifecycle of equipment, reduce repair cycle times and enhance the country’s self-sufficiency.
The agreement demonstrates Siemens commitment to its Qatari customers, and to localizing supply chain needs in Qatar and supporting Qatar Petroleum’s Tawteen initiative.

“Working closely with Siemen’s experts will increase the technical knowledge and experience of our workforce and improve our range of in-country services, aligning well with Qatar’s 2030 vision.” Asked about the project’s benefits and the market size for repair services for compressors and steam turbines, Wood said: “For us it’s a significant investment as the oil and gas market is quite critical to Siemens and Manweir. Both the companies have been involved in the oil and gas rotating equipment market for a number of years. And now we have joint hands to bring our expertise coupled with their (Manweir’s) facilities we can extend the life time of the equipment and reduce the repair cycle times and also improving the sustainability and independence of the local market.
He added: “It is important for Siemens, helpful for Tawteen initiative which will also ensure skill development and expertise in the Qatari market. Qatar’s oil and gas sector is a very significant market for us and we see the benefits of closer cooperation.” Siemens has been working in Qatar since the 1960s and continues to be a key contributor to the country’s energy, mobility and city infrastructure. Manweir has been operating in Qatar since 1976. The engineering services company provides maintenance for static, rotating equipment, as well as repairs, overhauling and testing of valves and other instruments.
Siemens and Manweir will enhance services to the oil, gas and petrochemicals industries in Qatar by providing the global knowledge of rotating equipment repairs, component and equipment designs, and other vital information developed by Siemens throughout its long history as a manufacturer of turbines and compressors.
