Cairo: The 26th meeting of the customs procedures and information committee started yesterday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, chaired by the State of Qatar and the participation of representatives of the customs administrations in the Arab countries.
Qatars delegation to meeting was represented by Head of Customs Procedures Unit at General Authority of Customs Issa Rashid Al Suwaidi.
In a statement on the sidelines of the meeting, Al Suwaidi said that the steps taken to launch the Arab Customs Information Center and the electronic exchange of customs information among Arab states were discussed, in addition to the discussion of the questionnaire prepared by the General Secretariat on qualified customs ports.
He added that the meeting touched on the memorandum of the General Secretariat of the Arab League on Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), which, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), prepared a guide for the economic operator and the mutual recognition model.
He explained that the aim is to facilitate trade between the Arab states when the customs union is established after the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), and to strengthen trade exchange as the Arab states in this case will be a transit point for trade.
He affirmed that the committee will submit a report on the results of its work to the next Directors-General Meeting of Customs in the Arab States.
