Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the receipt of a new cash endowment worth QR100,000 from a female benefactor, to be allocated to the endowment fund dedicated to the care and maintenance of mosques.

The donor stipulated that the returns generated from the endowment be directed specifically toward supporting mosques, reflecting a commitment to maintaining and serving houses of worship through sustainable charitable contributions.

The initiative underscores the continued generosity of donors in Qatar and their dedication to strengthening institutional waqf systems that ensure long-term impact across generations.

This contribution forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s endowment sector, where cash waqf plays a key role in boosting financial resources and expanding the capacity of endowment funds to support community-focused projects, particularly those related to mosque upkeep and services.

According to the Directorate’s records, the donor has previously contributed an investment endowment in the form of shares, demonstrating a continued commitment to charitable giving and transforming personal wealth into sustainable endowment assets with lasting societal benefits.

Officials highlighted that cash endowments allow for the investment of capital in a structured manner, preserving the principal while channeling returns to designated endowment funds. This approach strengthens the sustainability of waqf resources and enhances their role in community development.

Saleh Al-Houl Al-Marri, Head of the Donors Affairs Section at the General Directorate of Endowments, emphasised that endowments directed toward mosque care represent a significant and valued form of charity, given the central role mosques play as places of worship, guidance, and community development.

He noted that the Directorate manages and invests endowments in accordance with Sharia and legal regulations to ensure the preservation of assets, growth of returns, and strict adherence to donors’ conditions—further strengthening public trust in the waqf system.

Al-Marri added that the continued contributions from donors reflect growing awareness of waqf as a sustainable development tool, transforming endowed funds into permanent resources that benefit society across various sectors.

The mosque endowment fund plays a vital role in supporting the construction, maintenance, and operational needs of mosques, helping to sustain their religious, educational, and social functions within the community.

It also contributes to a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing mosque services, ensuring they remain vibrant centres for worship, religious education, and social cohesion.

The Donors Affairs Centre continues to facilitate the establishment and registration of endowments, offering guidance and consultation to individuals interested in charitable giving. It also provides ongoing communication with donors to highlight available opportunities and ensure their contributions achieve the greatest possible social impact.
