Doha, Qatar: As part of the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to strengthening the public safety system and ensuring the readiness of national warning mechanisms, the Ministry recently sent messages through the Early Warning System to mobile phones, coinciding with reduced horizontal visibility caused by fog in most areas of the country, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement on social media.
This was done to test the efficiency of the system, evaluate alert levels, and measure the speed at which messages reach the public under real-life conditions.
It clarified that the Early Warning System is considered an immediate alert tool used in emergency situations, whereby messages are delivered to all devices, including those set to silent mode, to enable the public to take necessary precautions promptly.
The Ministry confirmed that this system is not used for regular notifications or awareness messages; rather, it is activated only under exceptional circumstances that require urgent warnings to protect lives and property.
It also urged the public to take such alerts seriously and to follow the instructions contained in them, given their direct role in reducing incidents and enhancing safety for all.
