Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani meeting Secretary of State of the United States of America H E Marco Rubio yesterday.
DOHA: Mediators involved in the Gaza process are scheduled to convene tomorrow (Friday) to develop a comprehensive vision for moving to the second phase, aiming to ensure a smooth transition and sustain progress in ongoing negotiations.
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has said that there will be a meeting on Friday, bringing together all mediators to develop a comprehensive vision for transitioning to the second phase and matters will proceed smoothly in this regard.
Speaking to Al Jazeera in Washington yesterday, the Prime Minister said: “We first had the opportunity to discuss the status of the ceasefire in Gaza and the urgent need to move to the second phase, as well as the formation of a Palestinian civil government or administration as soon as possible, because the current situation puts the agreement at risk every day.” He said: “I agree with the US Secretary of State that efforts must be intensified. I believe there is an upcoming visit by the Israeli Prime Minister at the end of this month, and preparations are underway with the American side, our mediator brothers, and others.”
The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that there was also a discussion about Syria. “There are currently measures in Congress to lift sanctions on Syria, specifically the Caesar Act sanctions, and we encourage taking such steps to enable Syria to revive its economy once again, while emphasising the commitments that the Syrian government has placed upon itself, namely, that Syria be one state and that there will be fair treatment for everyone, from all sects and all backgrounds.” Regarding International Stabilization Forces (ISF), he said that to date, there are no fully detailed plans for this issue, but work is ongoing.
“There is coordination under US leadership regarding International Stabilization Forces and defining the tasks they will undertake.” He said: “We in Qatar support all efforts. The stabilization force should be the force that protects this agreement, ensuring that there is no threat from any party to another.” He said that they should not be a force that protects one party at the expense of another but rather a force that protects both parties, safeguards the agreement, and ensures its continuation and proper implementation.
