Doha: Aspire Academy student-athlete Owaab Barrow wrote the so far most successful chapter in his athletic career at the 2018 “Youth Olympic Games” in Buenos Aires yesterday: After dominating stage 1 of the 110m hurdles event on October 13, the 17-year-old Qatari managed his break his personal best again by finishing with a time of 13.33 seconds in stage 2.
With a combined time of 26.50 seconds, he topped the timesheet and won the gold medal ahead of Kenny Fletcher (France) and Lok Hei Addis Wong (Hong Kong). “I am very happy I was able to finish on first place. This is what I’ve been training for the past year and I want to thank everyone who supported me along the way,” Barrow said.
“This outstanding performance is the result of several years of hard work from his coach Lee Christopher and the entire sports science and medical support team that works with Owaab on a daily basis,” Tom Crick, Head Coach Athletics at Aspire Academy, commented the great result.
