GREENSBORO, United States/United States: PGA Tour rookie Patrick Reed birdied his final two holes as he shot a bogey-free six-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead after the second round of the Wyndham Championship yesterday.
The 23-year-old Reed, who is seeking his first win on the US tour, completed 36 holes at Sedgefield Country Club at 11-under-par 129, one shot ahead of John Huh, who is the reigning rookie of the year.
Huh fired a 62 also rolling in birdies on his final two holes to reach 10-under-par 130. His 62 was the low round of the week so far.
“We’ve been working extremely hard trying to fine-tune everything and I feel like lately with how I’ve been hitting the ball and how I’ve been putting it just seems all to be clicking,” said Reed. “I need to put four rounds together and hopefully that’s this week.”
American Jordan Spieth is alone in third place at nine-under after a second-round 66. Spieth earned his first career PGA Tour win in July at the John Deere Classic.
First-round co-leader Ross Fisher carded a 69 and dropped into a tie for fourth place at seven-under with five others. That list includes South Africa’s Rory Sabbatini, who shot 66.
Spieth set the early clubhouse mark with a 66, mixing seven birdies and three bogeys during his second round.
Reed, who went out off the 10th tee, had six birdies, including back-to-back birdies early in his round on the par-three 12th and par-four 13th.
Huh went bogey-free and closed with consecutive birdies.
“Not 62,” admitted Huh when asked if he saw this round coming. “It was more like maybe 64. But as I tell you, I drove the ball great since Masters, actually, it’s been a long time, but I was able to put everything together and really pleased with it.” AFP
