Doha, Qatar: Ambassador of Malaysian to Qatar H E Faizal Razali, hosted the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) Alumni Gala and Networking Event in Doha, bringing together MTCP alumni, diplomats, and government officials to celebrate decades of international cooperation, capacity-building, and the strong partnership between Malaysia and Qatar.
The event was attended by the guest of honour, Director of International Cooperation at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Ahmed Al Asiri. Among the distinguished guests were Ambassador of Ghana H E Mohammed Nurudeen Ismaila; and Ambassador of Gambia H E Omar Jah, both of whom are alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme.
Speaking at the gathering, Ambassador Razali highlighted the significance of the MTCP, which was established in 1980 as Malaysia’s contribution to South-South Cooperation. The programme reflects Malaysia’s commitment to sharing its development experience, expertise, and knowledge with fellow developing nations through training, technical assistance, and capacity-building initiatives.
He noted that human resource development remains at the core of the programme, with participants benefiting from short-term professional training in Malaysian institutions as well as long-term academic opportunities and scholarships at Malaysian universities.
Over the years, the MTCP has expanded to address evolving global challenges by incorporating emerging fields such as energy, environmental sustainability, Islamic finance, digital transformation, public administration, agriculture, and education. This evolution, Ambassador Razali said, underscores Malaysia’s determination to ensure the programme remains relevant and responsive to the needs of partner countries.
The Ambassador also emphasised the strong and growing relationship between Malaysia and Qatar, which is built on close political ties, shared values, and cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including trade and investment, energy, education, Islamic finance, food security, defence, aviation, and people-to-people exchanges.
He noted that the presence of the MTCP alumni in Qatar reflects the depth of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of capacity-building and human capital development.
Malaysia, he noted, remains committed to further strengthening collaboration with Qatar through continued knowledge-sharing, institutional partnerships, and practical cooperation.
The event also recognided four referees from the Qatar Football Association for their participation in the Malaysia Football Cup held in May 2026. Ambassador Razali said the involvement reflected the growing sporting links and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
