Qatar Chamber participates in ICC 11th World Chambers Congress

Qatar Chamber’s Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani has led the Chamber’s delegation participating in the ICC 11th World Chambers Congress held in Rio de Janerio in Brazil, from June 12 to 14.

Held under the theme “Creating a shared future”, the conference saw a participation of more than 100 countries.

The Chamber’s delegation included Board Member Dr. Khaled bin Klefeekh Al Hajri, the Director-General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Director of International Relations and Chamber’s Affairs Sheikha Tamader Al Thani, and a number of the Chamber’s officials.

The 11th WCC agenda filled with expert-led discussions from more than 80 master speakers through 25 sessions and workshops on many issues related to trade and activities of World Chambers.

On the sidelines of the event, Sheikh Khalifa held meetings with many officials, business leaders and chairs and representatives of world chambers. The meetings reviewed ways of enhancing cooperation ties and coordinating efforts with a view to streamlining businesses and world trade.

Sheikh Khalifa opened the Chamber’s pavilion in the exhibition held on the sidelines of the congress. He held a meeting with  Wilson Witzel the governor of Rio de Janeiro who expressed his country’s interest to promoting cooperation relations with Qatar in all economic and commercial fields.

Sheikh Khalifa extended him an invitation to visit Qatar with a trade delegation to identify investment opportunities available in Qatar and hold meetings between business sectors of both countries.

The Chamber’s Chairman also held separate meetings in the Chamber’s pavilion with Sergei Katerin, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Georges Teixeria, Chairman of the Federation of Brazilian Chambers, and several heads of delegations and business leaders participating in the conference.

During the meetings, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the business sectors in Qatar and these countries and reviewed the investment climate in Qatar and the opportunities available.

The chamber’s booth witnessed large turnout from participants who briefed on its role in facilitating global trade. They also were informed on investment climate of Qatar and mechanism of doing business.

The conference reviewed many important challenges faced by chambers of commerce and business communities. It also discussed ways of reforming world trade and achieving sustainable development and development of workers’ skills. The conference sessions dealt with issues related to fair competition and transparency, the future skills of the global economy and the revolution of electronic commerce.

During the conference, QC introduced its initiative on “National Home-Based Businesses Program” (NHBBP) within a competition from 74 chambers worldwide.

The Chamber’s presentation delivered before arbitration committees included introducing the project advantages and replying questions of the committee’s members.

The Qatar chamber’s project was ranked in the top five list in the competition, registering a new international success and achievement for Qatar. The other four projects were from Brazil, Turkey, Australia and Russia.
Sheikh Khalifa said that Qatar Chamber was keen on participating in the congress to highlight the role it pays in supporting global trade, noting that Qatar Chamber hosted the 8th edition of the congress in 2013.
