DOHA: The website www.katara.net of Katara, the Cultural Village, won the Arab websites shield award by competing with 350 websites of government and private agencies especially within nine Arab countries considered as most active in information technology.
Pierre Moukarzel, President of Excellence Awards Academy in the Arab World, the entity offering the award at a press conference said that the process of selecting winning participating websites is done by a committee of Arab and regional expert technicians, and is based on the international standards adopted by ESCWA, an active UN organisation in the Arab region in this field.
These standards include the creative side, usability, website’s structure and interaction, artistic visual design, in addition to its content. Moukarzel added that Excellence Academy in the Arab Region assign this award with the cooperation of Microsoft and Computer Manufacturers Association in the Middle East since 11 years to offer creativity awards in website design and developing the capacities of websites’ owners in showing their ingenuity in the competition of the best website in the Arab World.
Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of e Katara, the Cultural Village explained that selecting Katara’s website was based on accurate scientific criteria, and the most important is flexibility of communicating with the public, the fact confirmed by the visitors and browsers of the website.
He said, “Katara website, as you know is in Arabic and English, and lately a new version was launched in January 2012 that includes many titles that offer the Cultural Village Foundation with its various components, like facilities, centres and associations. In addition to the different activities and events continuously updated regarding their specific dates, locations and subjects”.
Dr Al Sulaiti said, “The website includes the page (contact us) linked to the email [email protected], in order to communicate with the public and answer their different questions and inquiries”.
He added that due to this interest, the number of browsers exceeded one million in 2013 from around the world, and the number of the Cultural Village Foundation Katara’s visitors exceeded 6 million and 700 thousand. Dr Al Sulaiti received Arab websites shield award from Moukarzel during the press conference.
