Doha: Qatar’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) for January 2021 stood at 107.1 points, showing an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the previous month (December 2020). When compared on year-on-year basis, the IPI index also increased by 2.1 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2020, data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) show.
The index of Mining sector sector showed an increase by 8.4 percent compared to the previous month (December 2020), as a result of the increase in the quantities of “Crude oil petroleum and natural gas” by 8.4 percent, while “Other mining and quarrying” showed an increase by 1.6 percent. When compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (January 2020), the IPI of Mining increased by 2.9 percent.
The index of Manufacturing sector showed a decrease by 2.8 percent compared to the previous month (December 2020), as a result of the decrease in “Printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 43.0 percent, followed by “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 5.9 percent, “Manufacture of beverages” by 4.6 percent, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 3.2 percent.
However, an increase was recorded in “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” and “Manufacture of Cement and other non-metallic mineral products” by 4.2 percent each, followed by “Manufacture of food products” by 2.9 percent, and “Manufacture of basic metals” by 1.3 percent.
On the other hand, in terms of annual change, comparing to January 2020, a decrease of 1.7 percent was recorded, affected by the following groups: “Printing and reproduction of recorded media’’ by 80.8 percent, followed by “Manufacture of beverages” by 16.8 percent, “Manufacture of basic metals” by 13.4 percent, “Manufacture of food products” by 4.6 percent, and “Manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” by 0.2 percent.
However, an increase was recorded in “Manufacture of Cement & other non-metallic mineral products” by 19.0 percent, “Manufacture of rubber and plastics products” by 10.2 percent, and “Manufacture of refined petroleum products” by 2.3 percent.
The index of Electricity sector showed a decrease of 4.1 percent in the production of “Electricity” group between January 2021 and the previous month (December 2020), while the annual increase (comparing with January 2020), was 1.1 percent.
The index of Water sector showed an increase of 0.2 percent in the production of “Water” group between January 2021 and the previous month (December 2020), while the annual increase (comparing with January 2020), was 1.9 percent.
